Additional Care
Citrus Care
Citrus trees are a favorite location for homopterous insects such as aphids and white flies, which are food sources for ants and spiders. Stressed trees draw these insects to your property. A regular year-round program including dormant oil treatments, fungicides, fertilizers, and release of beneficial insects will keep your trees productive.
Corky's Citrus Application Schedule:
These are the recommended services to make sure your citrus trees stay healthy:
Late November to Early January
Citrus and fruit trees are first sprayed with Superior Oil Emulsion to smother insect eggs and control egg-laying adults. Fungicide application to control the multiplication of fungus spores.
Early January to Mid-February
Citrus and fruit trees should be sprayed with the second application of Superior Oil Emulsion.
Mid-February to Late March (Early Spring)
First Fertilizer treatment is needed. We use a balanced fertilizer of 18-6-8 slow release nitrogen (SRN). We also add Essential, a product which contains humic acid and other soil building agents. Many nutrients are needed at this early important treatment time. Don't delay this most important fertilizer session!
Late March to Early May (Spring)
Second Fertilizer treatment is needed. We use 18-6-8 (SRN) plus the product Essential as before and an additional product, Micro-Green, which contains iron, zinc, manganese and other needed micronutrients. Beneficial Insects (lacewings) should be purchased and released in your citrus and fruit trees. We do not spray citrus and other fruit trees during this growing season.
Early May to Mid-June (Late Spring)
Third Fertilizer treatment is needed. This application can be applied any time before September 15th, and is usually just a Nitrogen based compound. Beneficial Insects (lacewings) should again be released.
Mid-June to Mid-October
Pay close attention to your watering schedule. This is the hottest time of year. Do not overwater.
Mid-October to Late November
Your?citrus tree treatments should all be completed by this time. If you missed any of the treatments it's better late than never.
