Ants Information

Honey Ants

The Honey Ant is tiny-workers are only 1/16th to 1/8th inch in size. They are a dark reddish-brown to black in color. As their name suggests, they prefer sweets for food, but will also eat live or dead insects, fruits, plant nectar, and honeydew. While they will enter houses in search of food, they normally will not build nests inside.

Life Cycle:

Honey Ants swarm in the early Spring (usually April and May), one of the first ants to swarm each year. They nest in soil, and are active until the summer heat forces them back underground. They are rarely seen during the summer months, as they actually prefer cooler temperatures. Honey Ants have small colonies.
